Biography
Goral Panchal, M.D., is an endocrinologist who sees patients via telemedicine. Even after several years of practice, treating each patient gives her the same thrill she had when she first began practice medicine.
“Having personal as well as patient experience with diabetes, I know it’s a difficult disease to treat,” she said. “It includes multiple aspects like diet, exercise and medications, as well as many lifestyle changes which are not easy to make.”
Philosophy of Care
“First, do no harm,” said Dr. Panchal. “I like to start patients on medications only if absolutely needed. Listening to the patients is the most important part of treating them as most of the time being a good listener makes planning treatment very easy and makes sure patients follow it. Educating patients about the treatment is also very important as they should know what treatment they are receiving and its risks and benefits. The knowledge I give them about the disease goes a long way as they know exactly what they are doing and they can also spread the ‘right’ information in society and to their family.”
The most satisfying aspect of Dr. Panchal’s work is seeing the smiles on her patients’ faces when they feel better and achieve their goals.
“I treat each patient as I would treat a family member,” she said. “I am here to help patients figure it out without making any judgements.”
Special Interests and Procedures
Dr. Panchal has a special interest in diabetes technology. “Some exciting recent medical discoveries in diabetes management include the development of continuous glucose monitors and ‘smart’ insulin pumps, and the development of an artificial pancreas is on the horizon,” she said.
Her hobbies include spending time with her two children, playing board games, doing arts and crafts, going for long walks, reading and traveling.
