Biography
Michael Paplawski, M.D., is a general surgeon who sees patients in his office in Sault Ste. Marie and performs procedures at MyMichigan Medical Center Sault.
“The thing that attracted me to surgery in particular was the possibility to really fix a problem,” he said. “I love the idea of an intervention providing a long-term solution to an ailment that’s bothering a patient.”
Philosophy of Care
“I believe in a patient-first mentality,” said Dr. Paplawski. “I try to keep the patient’s goals front and center during our interaction, recognizing that what they wish to accomplish may be different than what I would want, and that they are ultimately in control of their health and treatment options.”
Dr. Paplawski finds it rewarding to be able to play a role in improving the quality of life of someone who has been suffering from an ailment. “I want to create a relationship where we work together to achieve the patient’s goals of care,” he said.
“I believe a patient needs to be comfortable with their provider to have an overall positive experience and outcome,” Dr. Paplawski added. “I try not to focus solely on their surgical issue, but also how it’s affecting their quality of life and overall health.”
Special Interests and Procedures
Dr. Paplawski has a special interest in robotic surgery and surgery of the breast.
In his free time, Dr. Paplawski enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children, hockey and anything outdoors.
