Biography
Kegan Rogers, P.A.-C., is a board certified physician assistant with Great Lakes Surgical Associates. Kegan assists a team of four experienced general and bariatric physicians who perform surgeries at MyMichigan Medical Centers in Alma, Clare, Mt. Pleasant and Midland.
“Surgery allows me to give my patients a visible and often immediate change in their health,” said Keegan. “Whether it is removing an appendix due to appendicitis or a portion of the large intestine due to cancer, after their recovery, I get to see how big of an impact my work has on their health and wellbeing.”
Philosophy of Care
According to Rogers, people have the absolute right to make decisions regarding their health and any procedures they do or do not undergo. “As their provider it is my responsibility to make sure my patients are well educated on their conditions and that they are aware of all treatment options so that they can make well-informed decisions,” he said. “I want to earn my patients trust so that if I am the only provider they interact with prior to their surgery date, they have no reservations or fear prior to their procedure.”
When asked about the most satisfying aspect of his work, Keegan said it’s seeing the quality of life improvements patients make after surgery.
Special Interests and Procedures
When asked about an exciting development in the field of general and bariatric surgery, Kegan mentioned the use of robotics to perform more minimally-invasive procedures. He has a special clinical interest in J-pouch procedures.
“I have lived in many different places in my life and have had relationships with people and have treated patients from every cultural and socio-economic background,” he said. “This has taught me empathy and, if not understanding, then appreciation of where people come from and their motivations for their decisions.”
In his free-time Kegan enjoys reading, rock climbing, martial arts, and playing with his son.
