Biography
Melwyn Sequeira, M.D., is a endocrine surgeon and surgical oncologist with MyMichigan Health and currently welcoming new patients. He also serves as the oncology service line chief and is responsible for ensuring the highest quality and consistency of cancer care at MyMichigan.
Dr. Sequeira is one of only a few surgeons in the state who specializes in endocrine surgery, which includes thyroidectomies, parathyroidectomies and adrenal surgeries. It was during the completion of his surgical residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, that he developed a keen interest in endocrine surgery. Following the completion of his training at Mayo Clinic, he was recommended for an endocrine surgery fellowship at University Hospital, Lille, France, which he completed in December 2006.
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Sequeira believes the exchange of knowledge between the physician and patient builds a strong relationship.
“I realize there is an abundance of resources my patients may look to when they have a concern about a medical condition,” said Dr. Sequeira. “I encourage my patients to do their research so we can have a mutually beneficial discussion. In this way, we build a strong relationship and a better plan of patient care. It is always my goal to have my patient satisfied and see a smile on their face.”
“What I like most about the specialty of endocrine surgery is the ability to tie in the artistry of working with my hands with analytical thinking,” said Dr. Sequeira. “This combination offers me a great challenge and sense of satisfaction.”
