Biography

Amanda Spickerman, P.A.-C., is a physician assistant who specializes in family medicine. A member of MyMichigan Medical Group, she sees patients at the Family Practice Center in Midland.

She was attracted to the field of family medicine because she truly enjoys being able to care for people of all ages and walks of life. Being in an area of medicine where she’s able to see the patient as a whole and treat them as such makes Amanda feel honored as a provider, and she loves building relationships with people and the trust that comes with it, and feels that family medicine allows her to do this best.

The most satisfying part of Amanda’s work is establishing relationships with people, building trust with one another and being able to relate to things we all experience in everyday life. “I love it when people request to see me because they feel comfortable speaking with me about their concerns,” she said. “This makes me feel like I am making a difference and doing what I was called to do in my career.”

Philosophy of Care

“My philosophy of care is to always listen to the unique concerns of each patient, educate them on the pros and cons of the treatment options available and come to a mutual agreement on how we should approach their individualized care plan,” Amanda said.

Amanda wants all patients who seek out her care to feel valued in their concerns, no matter how big or small. “I think listening to the patient first is the most important step in caring for someone and being able to address their needs on an individualized basis,” she said.

“My goal is to always do what is best for the patient, all while taking their opinions into consideration,” Amanda said. “I want my patients to feel like they are involved in the decision-making process for their own health needs. I really try to take the time to explain the details of the ‘why’ so that people understand the purpose of a treatment or care plan. Even in my own personal experiences, if I can know the reasoning to the why, then it gives a purpose to a task and I am therefore more likely to follow through. By doing this, as a team we can achieve those health goals.”

Amanda has a special clinical interest in all aspects of women’s health. “I think that for some women, it can be a very difficult and private conversation to have, which oftentimes cause their concerns or questions to never be brought up during an office visit,” she said. “My goal is for all women who see me to feel comfortable when asking questions about any aspect of their reproductive health, no matter what stage of life they are in.”

In her free time, Amanda loves being outdoors, no matter the season. Her hobbies include camping in northern Michigan with her husband, Justin, and her yellow Labrador retriever, Hank, running, spending time with family and friends and photography.
