Philosophy of Care
Dr. Stebelton believes that honesty and education are the cornerstones of a productive doctor/patient relationship. “Patients need to be open and truthful with me about their health and their habits,” he said. Dr. Stebelton is happy to share his knowledge and educate patients about their specific conditions and their health in general. While he encourages his patients to learn as much as possible about their health and specific conditions, he cautions them to be careful with independent research. “They need to be discerning,” he said. “There is lot of easily available information and not all of it is accurate or useful. I want patients to see me as their best source of information and to bring all their questions to me.”
In the quest for good health, Dr. Stebelton said patience is often required. “If a patient has multiple concerns, we may have to work on them gradually,” he said. “If they need to make some lifestyle changes as part of the treatment plan, it can take time before symptoms diminish and they see a positive change in their health.”
Dr. Stebelton said medicine is most effective when patients and providers have an active partnership. “I ask patients to work hard to help themselves while I do my best to help them,” he said.
A native of the Mt. Pleasant area, Dr. Stebelton was raised on a dairy farm and still enjoys the role of gentleman-farmer. He and his wife have five children.
