Biography
Jacob (Jake) Trombley, D.O., M.P.H., specializes in family medicine. He sees patients of all ages at MyMichigan Health Park Gladwin.
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Trombley originally planned to specialize in orthopedic surgery or physical medicine and rehabilitation, however, those plans changed during his second year of medical school.
“The first day I spent in a family medicine office in Northern Michigan during my preceptorship, I knew this was the field for me,” he said. “You have the ability to do so much for a patient and be involved in their care from birth until death. Taking care of generations of families truly makes it rewarding.”
“I enjoy watching a patient grow up and treating an entire family. Throughout my residency, I’d often start out with one member of a family, and the next thing you know I was caring for everyone in that family.”
“My goal is to develop a trusting relationship where my patients can tell me anything. When patients come to the doctor’s office, they may be sick and scared. You have to remember to put yourself in their shoes and think about how they are feeling. Most of the time, patients can give you the answers you need to help them, if you ask the right questions and if they feel comfortable with you. I try to always be there for my patients whenever they need me so they do not feel abandoned.”
“I feel like I am relatable to patients. I have been a patient myself many times through hockey injuries and have been in their shoes. It is important to relate to how they’re feeling in order to put them at ease. I feel that I am calming when in the room with a patient, and I don’t put myself above them as a physician, which makes them feel comfortable with me. As providers we must not forget that patients are people just like us and they need to be treated as such.”
“Family medicine physicians have to be the jack of all trades and know a little something about everything. We have to be on top of our game at all times to give our patients the best care that they deserve.”
“Through my training as a Doctor of Osteopathy, I have been trained to perform osteopathic manipulative medicine and plan to incorporate this in my practice. I have also been trained in flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy. I enjoy doing joint as well as tendon injections to help alleviate pain in patients.”
“I grew up playing competitive hockey and went on to play in college. After my hockey career was over and medical school began, I took up competitive fishing as a stress reliever, and to this day I still travel the country chasing trophy walleye.”
“I have been with Lacey, who is born and raised in Gladwin and is the reason I was imported to Gladwin, for 10 years now. We have one fur baby who is a golden doodle named Cooper.”
“I am looking forward to being a rural health physician in Gladwin for many years to come. I look forward to getting to know more of the community and providing for your healthcare needs.”
