Biography
Phani Deepthi Vadlamudi, M.D., specializes in family medicine. She enjoys the variety that her specialty offers. “I enjoy working with all age groups and all conditions,” she said. “I get to know my patients, and I treat the whole person, not the disease. I like the continuity of care that family medicine offers, and I think patients are also happy to see a familiar face when they visit the office.”
Dr. Vadlamudi said she always wanted to become a doctor. “Both my parents worked in medicine,” she said. “We lived in a remote area, and I watched as my parents and the local family doctor cared for entire families. They knew each patient by name and had close relationships with them. I knew that’s what I wanted with my patients.”
Dr. Vadlamudi is driven to continually improve her skills, techniques and ability to deliver quality care. She embraces advances in technology and continues to learn new and better ways to serve her patients. “Education in family medicine is huge,” she said. “I continue to learn things because the field is ever changing. Change may be difficult at times, but it has to be done if we are to keep delivering better health care.”
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Vadlamudi believes the best patient-physician relationships are built on a foundation of trust and honesty. She also believes patients are ultimately responsible for their own health. “I tell patients that while I may not always have all the answers, I will do my best to help them,” Dr. Vadlamudi said. “The best part of my job is hearing a patient say ‘I feel great’ and knowing their health has improved.”
She is always considerate of patients’ constraints and is willing to work with them. “I am very patient,” Dr. Vadlamudi said. “I understand that people have financial obligations and perhaps have travel problems, so I take these things into account when I give them options. I treat my patients the way I want to be treated – with compassion and integrity.”
Dr. Vadlamudi was born and raised in India, where her parents and sister still live. She and her husband and twin girls enjoy living in the Midwest and appreciate the natural beauty of northern Michigan. She enjoys traveling and loves to read.
