Biography
Syed Shan Zamir, M.D., is an Interventional Radiologist with MidMichigan Health, specializing in interventional radiology and ablation procedures. He is fellowship trained in Interventional Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and sees patients at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland.
Interventional Radiology (IR) refers to a range of techniques which rely on the use of radiological image guidance i.e. X-ray fluoroscopy, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) to precisely target therapy. IR treatments are minimally invasive procedures.
When Dr. Zamir began medical school, he was interested in the fields of medicine where he could see quick results. During his residency, he discovered Interventional Radiology and feel in love with the instant gratification he found with the specialty and the minimally invasive option it provided the patient.
“Interventional Radiology provides better results thanks to the radiological technology which offers precise picture-perfect results of the treated area,” explains Dr. Zamir. “Many IR procedures can provide greater results with less risk.”
As far as new developments, Dr. Zamir is excited to see how the ablation has changed the way cancer tumors are treated. “The ablation process melts the tumors and provides patients a minimally invasive procedure,” said Dr. Zamir. “Also, radio ablation offers quick and effective ways of providing pain relief for many patients.”
Philosophy of Care
“I’m a perfectionist, so during my career I continue to strive to find the ideal treatment options for my patients as well as performing the procedures with precise accuracy,” said Dr. Zamir. “I want my patients to satisfied with the results so they return to me with their future healthcare needs.”
In his spare time, Dr. Zamir enjoys playing chess with his brother, swimming and playing tennis. The highlight of his downtime is spending time with his wife, Maida, who is a family medicine provider, and their son and daughter.
