Scholarship is Supporting Her to Become a Physician Assistant

As far back as she can remember Sarah Schumacher has always wanted to have a career in the medical field. But it was having the opportunity to job shadow someone that confirmed what specific path she would pursue.

“I decided I wanted to take the physician assistant (P.A.) route my junior year in high school,” said Schumacher. “I was in the Health Technology class at Bay-Arenac ISD and I shadowed a P.A. and that was it. I knew that was the career I wanted to be a part of.”

A scholarship from The Bernard F. and Melissa Anne Bailey Family Fund is helping her pursue that path. Schumacher, from Sanford, is currently attending South College in Knoxville, Tenn. She plans to return to Michigan once she graduates to start her career as a physician assistant.

“I am looking forward to making a difference in people’s lives by finally putting to use everything that I learned in class,” Schumacher said. “Receiving the Bailey scholarship has not only helped me, but many other students as well. Having such a generous scholarship opportunity as a graduate student isn’t easy to come by, and I am forever grateful.”

The Bernard F. and Melissa Anne Bailey Family Fund is an endowment fund given to MyMichigan Health to administer as a student scholarship program for those area individuals interested in pursuing professional schooling in a health-related profession.
