Dr. Peter Aliferis Memorial Education Scholarship
The laboratory staff at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena established the Aliferis fund in tribute to Dr. Peter Aliferis, a pathologist who worked with the Medical Center for 37 years. Dr. Peter Aliferis passed away on March 13, 2002, and the scholarship fund is in memory of his many contributions to the hospital and community. The fund offers a $1,000 scholarship to graduating residents of Alpena, Alcona, Montmorency or Presque Isle counties who are pursuing a career in the clinical laboratory science field or medical school.
Who Should Apply?
Eligible Applicants Must:
- Be a resident of Alpena, Alcona, Montmorency or Presque Isle County
- Accepted into a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate program in the health care field. Preference will be given to students studying pathology, medical laboratory science, or who plan to be future providers. Students in the pre-program stage or not yet accepted into their program of study are not eligible.
- Be enrolled in an accredited Michigan college or university
- GPA must be 3.0 or higher
- Provide one letter of recommendation
- Submit an official or unofficial transcript
- You must demonstrate financial need by providing your Student Aid Report
Application Process
Electronic applications for the upcoming school year will be accepted beginning December 1 of each year with the deadline of March 1. Applications and support documentation will only be accepted electronically. To apply, complete the following steps:
- Complete the online Dr. Peter Aliferis Memorial Education Application. No longer accepting applications, please check back after December 1, 2024.
- You will receive email confirmation that application has been received.
- Submit required documentation to aliferis.scholarship@mymichigan.org
- Subject Line - First & Last Name - Aliferis Scholarship Application
- Please submit the following as attachments to the email:
- One (1) recommendation letter
- A current transcript including your cumulative GPA and most recently completed semester grades
- A copy of your letter of acceptance to your health care related program
All items of the application are due in full by March 1. Applicants can anticipate a response regarding the status of their applications during the month of June. Any questions can be sent to aliferis.scholarship@mymichigan.org.
