Advanced Practice Provider Students

Nurse Practitioner & Physician Assistant Students

MyMichigan Health offers clinical rotation experiences to students of accredited physician assistant and graduate nurse practitioner programs. All physician assistant and graduate, nurse practitioner rotation requests are coordinated through the Academic Affairs Office and Workforce Development Office. The Academic Affairs Office will identify available preceptors for rotation requests.

Students should not contact MyMichigan Health providers directly for placement.

Process for securing Clinical Rotations

Step 1: Apply for Clinical Rotations

Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner students wishing to complete a clinical rotation at MyMichigan Health need to complete an application submitted through ACEMAPP.

Completion of an application does not guarantee placement and location of rotation placement is dependent upon availability.

Once an application is received the Academic Affairs Office will work to identify a preceptor with the availability and capacity for a rotation.

Step 2: Affiliation Agreement

Once a preceptor is secured by the Academic Affairs Office, confirmation will be sent to the student. If no affiliation agreement exists between the student’s program and MyMichigan Health, the student will need to provide the name, phone, email and fax number to the clinical placement coordinator with their program so an agreement can be facilitated by the MyMichigan Health Academic Affairs and Workforce Development offices.

This process may take eight to twelve weeks to complete, depending on the length of time needed for the both parties to reach an agreement of terms.

Step 3: MyMichigan Health Student Credentialing

MyMichigan Health utilizes ACEMAPP to process all required student documentation. If a clinical rotation is secured, students must upload required documentation and complete training requirements through an ACEMAPP account.

Some programs may participate as partners in ACEMAPP. If a program participates in ACEMAPP, the student’s clinical coordinator will be advised to request a rotation in ACEMAPP with a corresponding MyMichigan Health clinical site.

If a student’s program does not participate in ACEMAPP, a registration link will be sent to the student from the Academic Affairs Office upon accommodation of your clinical rotation request. Students will be required to pay a registration fee to access the ACEMAPP link and upload required documentation and training. For any technical issues with the site please call the ACEMAPP Help Desk at (844) 223-4292 or support@acemapp.org.

Required Documentation: Students must upload the following documentation (up to date within 12 months of the rotation start date) at least 1 week prior to the rotation start date to their ACEMAPP account:

  • Immunization Records
  • Flu vaccine (if on-site during the designated flu season)
  • TB screening
  • BLS certification (for students that will have direct patient contact)
  • Background Check (https://apps.michigan.gov/ichat/home.aspx)
  • Urine Drug Screen (10-panel)
  • Fingerprinting – if your rotation includes 120 hours or more in Hospice, Home Care or Mental Health settings state recommendations require fingerprinting

Compliance Requirements: All students participating in a clinical placement at MyMichigan Health must complete compliance requirements through ACEMAPP and the MyMichigan Health training modules.

Orientation Information: Students must review all materials within ACEMAPP.

Step 4: Processing for Computer Logins/Electronic Medical Record Access

Students with clinical placement at MyMichigan Health may be granted access to our computer system and electronic medical record based on the placement location and the specifications of the clinical experience. The Academic Affairs Office will work with the preceptor or their designee to secure any additional security and training for students.

Step 5: MyMichigan Health Badges

The Academic Affairs Office will determine whether a student needs a MyMichigan Health ID and will request the badge through the Security Office. The student must be identifiable when on MyMichigan Health sites; therefore the student must wear their student badges if a MyMichigan Health ID is not requested for internship.
