Quality Education Begins with Quality Patient Care
Outpatient Care
Central to your clinical experience in the Midland program will be the care of your patient panel in the Family Practice Center. It is located centrally in the Gerstacker Building on the campus of MyMichigan Medical Center Midland. It is a multi-disciplinary clinic with on-site care management, medical social work, psychological counseling, billing/coding and laboratory services.
About 10,500 patients are registered with the Center and we see more than 25,000 patients each year. Family Practice Center patients represent a wide cross section of the population in this area.
For your patients, you will be their personal family physician, addressing their questions, concerns and problems over the phone, via the patient portal and in your office. It also permits you to gain experience in the role you will most likely play in your future practice
Inpatient Care
The adult inpatient medicine service is staffed by a faculty member, a senior resident, and two first-year residents during the day and a faculty member and senior resident during the night.
Direct contact with attending physicians represents the full spectrum of medical specialties (cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, neurology, pulmonology, etc...)
Office Procedures
We have a proud tradition of strong procedural training that is spread across our curriculum. Procedure training is taught through a combination of longitudinal lectures, procedure workshops, half day procedure clinics, and one-on-one precepting of procedures during routine clinic time one to two times per month. All residents must learn a set of core procedures, plus they can choose to learn additional procedures to meet the needs of their future practice.
Obstetrics (Labor & Delivery)
Area obstetricians are very supportive of family physicians. Family Medicine Residents are the only residents on the OB unit.
