Our team of doctors, certified diabetes educators, nurses and registered dietitians at MyMichigan Health Park Riverfront* are here to help. We offer care for children and adults with pre-diabetes symptoms, type 1 and 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and other endocrine disorders. Working with your primary care doctor and endocrinology specialist, we deliver personalized care for your needs.

We provide comprehensive diabetes education to those who have been diagnosed with prediabetes or diabetes. Our team of registered dietitians and nurses provide resources to help you self-manage and better understand your condition.

Our program has been recognized by the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE). From one on one nutritional counseling to group support classes, we are committed to providing the tools and support you’ll need on your journey.

Diabetes Education

MyMichigan's Diabetes/Nutrition Services provides individual and group instruction to help you gain knowledge to control your condition, avoid complications and enhance skills for a healthier life.

Our diabetes education classes include:

  • Diabetes Made Simple
    This course is for people with diabetes and their family members to help develop self-management skills. Class discussions include meal planning, physical activity, self-blood glucose monitoring, recognizing and preventing complications, medical review, stress and coping skills. This set of classes is provided several times each month at various locations.
  • Insulin and Other Injectable Medication Training
    This class will teach you how to use injectable medication equipment and how to safely dispose of it. You will also gain an understanding of the medication, and learn about the signs, symptoms and treatment of hypoglycemia.
  • Individual Nutrition Counseling
    Medical nutrition therapy is provided for any medical condition and includes one follow-up visit. Assistance is provided for conditions such as:
    • Diabetes
    • Elevated Blood Cholesterol and Triglycerides
    • Heart Disease
    • High Blood Pressure
    • Kidney Disease
    • Weight Management
