Say Thank You To Your Nurse

MyMichigan Health is joining health care facilities around the world in recognizing the compassionate and skilled clinical care that nurses provide patients through The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®.

What Is the DAISY Award?

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award was established in 2000 by the DAISY Foundation as a way to say ‘thank you’ to nurses around the world. Nurses who are selected as DAISY Award recipients receive a DAISY Award presentation on their unit or in their office, a hand-carved Healer’s Touch sculpture, an honoree pin and banner and cinnamon buns for their unit or work area. By honoring compassionate nurses, DAISY reinforces the importance of compassion in health care, shining a light on excellent patient care.

About the DAISY Foundation

The DAISY Foundation was started in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he passed away from complications related to an auto-immune disorder, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). While Barnes was hospitalized, his father, stepmother and wife were touched by the kindness and compassion that Barnes’s nursing team showed him and his family every day. After Barnes passed away, his family knew they wanted to do something in his memory that also served as a way to say thank you for the care he received, and offer other patients, families and co-workers an easy way to express their gratitude for all nurses who provide compassionate care.
